One minute I was celebrating my 40th birthday, and the next, I was on my way to the hospital in the back of an ambulance.
My mom had a massive stroke at age 52. My sister died from diabetes-related issues at age 45. I was on the same path they were.
For years, I sought help from fitness trainers, nutritionists, health coaches, and diet programs. Each one had different, and often conflicting information. It was so confusing, but in desperation to be skinny, I tried them all. Sometimes I'd lose weight, but then I'd lose interest, or stop because it was hard to follow. I was depressed, frustrated, and overwhelmed. I spent so much money and spent so much time stressing out over numbers on a scale!
Being in that ambulance was the turning point of my life. I realized what was missing from all the diets I tried, which focused on how much weight you should lose. Realizing weight loss was only a part of being healthy, I wanted to know how I can work on self-care and make the changes I needed to have a fighting chance of being around for my children. I put the research skills mastered in my science and medical background to work and looked for the best people in their fields to learn from.
As I started taking courses, I was applying what I was learning to myself. By making health the priority, instead of numbers, I was able to make lifestyle changes with ease, manage my stress, and lose over 100 pounds without struggle. My relationship to food became so much better. I had no more cravings, and my sugar addiction was gone.
The name, "Wellness Unicorn", came from my clients, for the strategy I offer, so they create change without making big changes, which gets results without struggle.
